Common Threads
Act 01
There is an air of dissent among the planters, millers and other workers on La Sagesse sugar cane plantation. Their union leader and most senior worker, Papa Cane, has been mysteriously murdered. Wages are minimal and working conditions abysmal, with false promises of better things to come.
Act 02
Welcome to the beautiful terrain surrounding the valleys of South Wales and the cold, damp treacherous Big Pit coal mine in Monmouthshire. Big Pit's unrest is stirred by supernatural elements and workers' chants. The Coal Miner's Ballad etches the workers' struggle into the hearts of all who can hear the miners sing their songs of resistance.
Act 03
Oz and Mama Dlo's supernatural wizardry coupled with the workers stern resolution leads to Warner's Secret being revealed before his workers on both sides of the Atlantic . The Wizzie Wizzie World of the Invisible seems an inevitable fate for Warner, as the haunting sound of Tuki engulfs Leaper's Hill and fills the air.
Act 04
Here, at the dawn of the 21st century, the common threads of acts one and two become interwoven. Over several generations the lives of the miners, their children, the donkeys and ponies who worked with them in the mines have changed. New forms of energy and technology are being explored and mine workers are key stake-holders in their places of work.
